As you may have seen this week on our instagram feed, we’ve been posting photos of unique, personalized details for your wedding day. Not just because it it is something pretty to look at, but because your wedding day should be uniquely YOU! This day is about joining two unique individuals and, often, two points of view. This monumental day is an opportunity to share parts of your personalities with friends, families and in some case, strangers too! This is an opportunity for you to showcase your favorite colors, your favorite places to visit, and your favorite foods. It is, in essence, a bit of a journey through your courtship and life as a couple.
Here is a piece of advice that I always try to give our clients. Just because someone else is doing something, doesn’t mean you HAVE to! Don’t like buffets but feel like you HAVE to do it because your sister had one at her wedding, your cousin said that is what worked for her or just because you didn’t even know there was another option? Nope, not true! Sure, there will be limitations in what you might be able to do because of your budget, venue selection or countless other ‘things’ that might pop up. BUT, you don’t have to sacrifice personalization.
Here are some of our favorite ways to inject a sense of personality into your special day:
- Incorporate stories, poems or personally written vows
- Include momentos or locations that are important to you in your photos
- Choose a color pallet that you truly love
- Include a locket, handkerchief or other sentimental item into your bouquet or boutonniere
- Consider naming your tables instead of numbering them
- Give a favor that is consumable in some way- seeds if you love to garden, candied nuts that were made from your Granny’s recipe, coasters with a quote, candles with your favorite fragrance
Don’t forget you can personalize your food options too!
- Popcorn. Do you love it? Us too. A popcorn bar is a fantastic pre- or post- reception treat!
- Sprinkles. Do you adore the nostalgic feeling it brings? Cover your cake in them. Dip marshmallows in chocolate and roll those babies in color coated candy. If your venue will allow ist, throw it in the air during your farewell.
- Ice Cream. Do you have to end every meal with a bowl? Have an ice cream bar!
- Cake.Hate it? There are TONS of other dessert options available. See ice cream above. Popsicles. Pie. Cookies. Tarts. Scones. Candy. DONUTS!
- French Fries. Your favorite late night indulgence? Food Trucks are great for this!
We know planning can be stressful , but your wedding day is 100% about YOU as a couple and about the journey you are embarking on together. And hey, if the stress gets to be too much just remember that a wedding planner exists solely to take that weight off your shoulders. Whether you choose to work with a planner or go for it on your own, make sure your wedding day leaves you feeling UNITED & true to YOU!
