Is there a lot involved in planning and setting up a wedding? Do I really need a wedding planner? Does the wedding of my dreams really involve that much preparation before the guests arrive? Yes, yes and yes!
I recently had my first experience participating in the set-up and take-down of a wedding. When I think of that day, I imagine a big transformation reveal, with “before” and “after” pictures.
If I were to show you any “before” pictures, they would involve boxes on top of boxes on top of boxes of crystals, linens, candlesticks, glassware, candelabras, cake stands and oh, I can’t forget, blood, sweat and tears- literally. Imagine racing the clock to get decorations out and tables set properly, sticking your finger over and over while pinning beads on tablecloths, and sweating in the most unladylike manner. The before is not pretty. Let me repeat, the before is NOT pretty.
I went into this experience believing my own personal myth: If a plan is set, it will be easy and stress-free. I also left with a new understanding- wedding planners have fairy godmother powers. Thinking about enlisting the help of friends and family members? Newsflash; they will not enjoy running around before to make sure everything meets your expectations, and they will not enjoy cleaning up after the event while you’re on your way to a relaxing honeymoon.
So why do we do it? We do it for the “after:
P.S. A note from Tanya – A special Thank You and shout out to A Fantasy in Flowers! We could not have made this event come together without your beautiful work. This wedding was such an undertaking! The bride had a specific design in mind and we were so happy to be able to pull it all together. It took 8 of us to make this happen in under 2 hours time.
